Less than a week until the album!

As you can see the cds have arrived, and we are heading towards a busy week of rehearsals followed by the album launch on Friday! Hope to see you there at the Prince Albert -we'll be playing the whole album in order at 10pm, and if you buy a cd you'll also get some free shwag. If you don't manage to get one of the 50 cd albums, it'll also be available as a digital download, and we'll post some links to that once it's out.

Ali and Bryn recently recorded a live session for Radio Reverb here in Brighton, and we'll let you know when that is going out.

I've spent the day mostly listening to Frightened Rabbit's new album, which is streaming on their myspace and comes out in shops tomorrow - check it out, it's as good as you'll be hoping if you're familiar with their last amazing album!!!

Have a good week :)

"A musical journey toward beautiful yet oddly unnerving climaxes..."

Couple of bits of news for you - Ali and Bryn have started 2010 by doing a nice little decade retrospective interview on Electric Grapevine, and to our pleasant surprise they also did a lovely review of our three track demo!

In other Sparrow news, on Monday we did an impromtu gig at Sussex University which turned out to be a great night, with lots of good music and friendly people. Hopefully we'll get to play there again soon! Marina and I were saying after, we just want to play all the time! It is quite frankly our favourite thing. We're now looking forward to our Brighton gigs at The Providence on Feb 4th and The Prince Albert on March 5th (album launch!).

Other good things of note: Bob Schneider, bourbon biscuits, Jeffrey Brown, the fact that it's not raining, and sparklers left over from bonfire night...

Quiet, the children are sleeping...

Happy new year! Here's hoping your 2010 has started well.

All the snow here in Brighton has melted which means we're a lot less busy having snowball fights, and we've found the time to upload some free mp3s for you to check out. So you can now download the songs 'Our street' and 'Secret' from this blog. We hope you enjoy them, and feel free to send them on to your friends if you do!

The picture above is the album cover for 'Sparrow', which is released in a small run of cds on March 5th, with a digital release on the same day. Yay!

In the next few weeks we'll be busy practicing for our upcoming gigs, as well as filming some live studio videos - something we're looking forward to a lot! So look out for those and we'll keep you updated with how everything else is going.

Hello and welcome and that sort of thing...

Hello there! Caz the drummer here. (Or simply 'Caz' as most people call me). This very first post on Our Street finds us near the end of 2009, quite busy trying to figure out how one goes about successfully (whatever that means) self-releasing an album without ending up selling all the copies to our mums because no one else knows we've even done one. Among other things.

We (Marina, Ali, Bryn and Caz) started playing together as Sparrow sometime in the early months of this year, when Marina and Ali decided to take some of the songs they had been writing together and see if they could make them work with a full band. Ali knew Bryn and I separately through various musician type projects in the past - playing in bands, recording albums, drinking tea etc. So he decided to bring us in for rhythm section duties. We were both up for it, and have exchanged many a rhythm section high 5 since.

We got an album's worth of material together pretty quickly and spent 2009 rehearsing said material, gigging it a little around Brighton and recording it so that we could show it off to our friends. Now we are faced with the challenge that all bands come to at this point, which is figuring out how to get the music out to more people so that they might want to come to our gigs and listen to our songs while jogging and things like that. I don't think any of us have any aspirations for the band that are much grander than simply to progress continually - which I think means playing more gigs, writing more songs and we hope gradually reaching a wider audience.

For now we've decided to do a very small release of our album ourselves in March 2010, and do a mixture of selling it at gigs and sending copies out for reviews etc. Right now that means we're spending a lot of time telling people about the release and sending demos out to anyone that might want to then tell more people about the release! We think that's a good start at least, and we'll keep you posted on how all that's going.

The March release also means we're working hard on artwork, tracklistings and other things on the creative side, while resisting using up too much rehearsal time on writing new songs for Album Number Two (which we hope will happen!). So hopefully there will be some more art and music based posts to come in the near future too.

That'll probably do for a quick introduction to the band and where we're at. Lots of post-Christmas/pre-NYE cheer to you. Caz xx

Ps, if you've stumbled upon this blog before stumbling upon our actual music then don't forget to check it out! You can hear a few tracks from the forthcoming album at www.myspace.com/sparrowbrighton.
